Research interests: molecular, cellular and clinical effects of acute and chronic exercise in patients with diabetes mellitus, use of wearables for disease prevention and therapy.

Professor Dr. Christian Brinkmann is a Senior Researcher in Sports Medicine, working at IST University of Applied Sciences Düsseldorf and German Sport University Cologne.

His research focus is on molecular, cellular and clinical effects of acute and chronic exercise in patients with diabetes mellitus as well as on the use of wearables for disease prevention and therapy.

Dr. Brinkmann is currently working in an EU-funded project. Its objective is to develop an integrated wearable sensor system (the ‘ELSAH-patch’) for continuous monitoring of molecular biomarkers at rest and during exercise.

Dr. Brinkmann frequently speaks nationally and internationally at research conferences. He has authored more than 50 peer-reviewed articles. Dr. Brinkmann is a Fellow of the German Diabetes Society (DDG) and the German Association for Sports Medicine and Prevention (DGSP).
