Jose H. Flores-Arredondo, MD
Department of Surgery, Section of Surgical Oncology, Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TX, USA
In 2014, Dr. Flores-Arredondo joined the lab of Steven A. Curley, MD, Chief Section of Surgical Oncology as a Research Associate at Baylor College of Medicine in the Department of Surgery where he implements innovative technologies from other areas like in-vivo and ex-vivo imaging modalities and nanotechnology to better understand the tumor microenvironment and treat hepatic and pancreatic cancers. Dr. Flores-Arredondo’s main research focus is the implementation of advanced MRI techniques in the diagnosis, prognosis and evaluation of cancer. He is also actively involved in new areas of research such as: nanotechnology, AR, VR and interventional MRI (iMRI).
In the past, Dr. Flores-Arredondo has participated in basic and clinical research in heart failure, where he handled the interpretation and analysis of small animal imaging, mainly ECHO and MRI in mice with heart failure. During this time, Dr. Flores-Arredondo collaborated in projects involving micro- and nanoparticles and scanning electron imaging, where we used microparticles to target various cell lines present in the cardiovascular system (i.e. endothelial cells, smooth muscle cells, cardiac fibroblasts and cardiac myocytes); the overarching goal of these studies was to target selectively the heart to treat heart failure. In 2013, he was offered the opportunity to join Drs. Dipan J. Shah and Gerd Brunner at Houston Methodist Hospital and Baylor College of Medicine respectively to pursue further training in cardiac imaging, mainly cardiac MRI. His main project was to delineate the relationship between physical and functional cardiac parameters and recurrence in patients treated for Afib with Atrial Fibrillation Catheter Ablation (AFCA) through Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (CMR).
